What is a Minster Church?

CC is not a normal parish church, although CC does of course have 'parish responsibilities' because the building is in a particular place. But we are already a Minster church by default. A Minster church is more of a 'church centre' than an expression of the parish and, in fact, Minster churches are more ancient than the parish system.

The reason that we are a Minster church by default is that the spokes (our members) that emanate from our centre, reach throughout Bristol. We act as a centre for people throughout the area. This is not something for pride or arrogance but a fact and it should spur us on to intentional action.

A Minster church aims to equip the spokes for mission, always remembering that the actual place for its mission is not particularly related to the physical location of the building. Some will be but not all and maybe not the majority.

Our aim is to equip the church to be able to reach out with the gospel where they live and work.
