Uganda report
In August 2008 a team of eight of students (mostly from Christ Church) went to Uganda to work with a church and a school there. Many had been there before and it's good to see now a strong link built between Christians from the University and from Christ Church and the work out there. The school was begun seven years ago to offer education to some of Lungujja's (an area of Kampala where we were staying) children who would not otherwise have access to it. The school is ever growing and ever needy and it is great to be able to go and support it with our time and money. However the most important work we did there was with the church. There are many believing Christians and church attending people in Uganda that have never had access to the kind of teaching that we take for granted. Pastor Steven does great work and is a man of great faith, but even he has limitations. He tells us that the result of people's lack of teaching is the old story that Christianity in Uganda is a million miles wide and only an inch deep (or 2.5cm and 1609344km if you like metric). We therefore apent four afternoon sessions going over the very basics of how the Bible fits together hoping that the work can be carried on now we've left and that the Christians there may in time learn to read the Bible for themselves. The sessions were very well attended and the feedback we had definitely showed a hunger for teaching, we must now remember to pray for these people that they would grow in understanding and faith. We thank Christ Church for all their support financially and in prayer.

Brazil report
During August 2008 one of our students, Emily Lyall, spent three and a half weeks in São Paulo, Brazil as part of a group of ten people from different churches with BMS World Mission. We were there to support two local churches, in evangelistic work and by leading two weeks of lessons in PEPE pre-schools, which provide education throughout the year for many children who could not afford it otherwise. The most rewarding part of my time in Brazil was visiting various non-Christian families and talking to them about the gospel. Before we arrived the church had been praying for 40 days and suggesting families that would like to receive a visit. A typical visit would include a testimony from one of the team (with the help of an interpreter), then the Pastor gave a short talk and finally we offered to pray with them. It was a privilege to pray with so many people, including several who asked Jesus into their lives on the spot. I felt so blessed to spend time with this church, which despite only having a congregation of about 70 people use what they have to make a difference in the community. I have learnt a lot from their enthusiasm and how it is really possible to show faith in a practical way on a daily basis. The people I stayed with didn't have very much materially, but they shared their lives with us which meant so much to me.
