Training in ministry

All Christians are 'ministers' - servants of God, proclaiming the gospel. Whether we minister full-time in an office, in the home, on the streets, or for a local church, we are all 'ambassadors for Christ'.

Training can help us to develop our skills in the particular ministry areas God has called us to. Many groups at Christ Church offer their leaders occasional training, but there are some more formal opportunities for training as well.

Ministry assistants spend 1 to 2 years working full-time for Christ Church. 20% of their time is spent in training, under the supervision of Matt Rowland, our ministry assistant trainer.

We are currently trialling an apprentice scheme. Apprentices give one or two days a week to Christ Church, over the course of a year, working in a particular ministry area.

Our Ministry Training Fund makes grants to members of Christ Church who seek further training elsewhere - at a Bible college or another church.

Serving on short term mission teams or summer camps can also provide great training. There are bursaries available to support members of Christ Church serving in these ways.

There are also local ministry training schemes, such as the one day a week South West Gospel Partnership scheme.
